Artist's Comments

The first of two illustrations for the short story "To Feed an Army" by Mark Tullius, which will appear in the magazine Black Ink Horror . The story, especially the ending, gave me the creepy-crawlies. The horror may not be evident in this picture yet, but I'd keep an eye out for those ants(Eciton sp.) They sure can ruin a lovely picnic.

Many, many thanks to

Pen and ink.

Thank you very much! You know, I was having second thoughts about this one because I had such a vivid image of what was going on in the story, so the drawing came out in a far more brutal way. I was also trying to go for a more darker and harsh style just to match the hostile environment the soldier is in. Plus, the story ends in a creepy and violent climax with a lot of ants. :O
